to the memory of Erlysman Pinckney esquire J.P. who was born 15 december 1838 & died 31 January 1920 & whose ancestors of four generations 1698-1911 were buried in this church & churchyard also of his three grandsons who gace their lives in the service of their country in the Second Great World War Erlysman Patrick Hamilton Pinckney Lieutenant Commander Royal Navy killed in action in the Mediterranean 23 October 1943 aged 41 while in command of a flotilla of minesweepers only son of Erlysman Charles & Agnes Pinckney , Philip Hugh Pinckney Captain Royal Artillery who took part in commando raids & was killed on Special Air Service duty at Baigno North italy 7 September 1943 aged 28 & David John Colin Pinckney D.F.C. Flight Lieutenant Royal Air Force Vilunteer Reserve who was a fighter pilot in the Battle of Britain & was killed in action near Pegu Upper Burma 23 January 1942 aged 23 the only sons of John Robert Hugh & Winifred Pinckney he died 20 February 1964 aged 88 she died 12 April 1976 aged 96
