OTHER INFORMATION: Born 5th June 1884 at Portsmouth. 75 Gladstone Street, Mile End, Landport. Volunteered August 1914. Transported troops to France. Served on HM Repair Ship Socota & HM Hospital Ship Aberdonian. (Information from National Roll of Great War - Portsmouth) On mercantile marine medal card state widow H B Ashcroft, 75 Gladstone St, Portsmouth. On naval medal roll there is a mercantile marine reserve man - greaser, Fredk Ascroft ship "Sokoto" died 1923, with code Ww - widow so medal issued to her. On 1911 census Julia Ashcroft mother (widow, age 70), and son Frederick (married, age 26, a fireman not greaser) living at 41 Gamble Road, Kingston Cross, Portsmouth. Probably married April/May/June 1906 at Portsmouth.
